Matthias Grünewald (oboe)
Matthias Grünewald studied oboe with Prof. Gernot at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold, completing his studies with the artistic final examination.
In his musical work, he has always put an emphasis on chamber music, and has pursued this with different instrumentations, ranging from trio d’anches and the wind quintet to the octet and larger instrumentations. In 1996, his wind quintet won an award at the German college competition.
Matthias Grünewald’s love for chamber music has already led him to the Middle East, visiting Israel, Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon. As well as this, he has recorded several chamber music CDs together with the internationally renowned Consortium Classicum. Another highlight of his musical career that took place during his studies was his performance as a soloist with the Detmolder Kammerorchester conducted by Tibor Varga.
He completed his musical education by taking part in numerous courses for chamber music as well as a master class with Prof. Ingo Goritzki.
Matthias Grünewald has gathered extensive experience playing in orchestras, for example as a solo oboist in the Oldenburgisches Staatsorchester, as well as free-lancing in many German orchestras, such as the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, Staatsorchester Braunschweig, Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie Herford, Detmolder Kammerorchester, and the Philharmonie der Nationen.
From 1999 to 2001, he studied applied computer sciences, and since 2001 Matthias Grünewald has been working as a software developer at the SAP AG.
Since 2002, he has taken on the role of being solo oboist in the SAP Symphony Orchestra, having already performed several times as a soloist with this orchestra. For example in 2006, the year of Mozart, he played Mozart’s Concerto for Oboe and the Sinfonia Concertante, and in 2008, during the music festival Heidelberger Frühling, he played the Idillio-Concertino for Oboe and Orchestra by Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari. Besides this, he has performed Richard Strauss’ Concerto for Oboe.

In our charity concert for Uganda on 11. july 2015 in Ladenburg we will hear Matthias Grünewald with the concerto for Oboe and orchestra C-Dur KV 314 from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
